This course will include a discussion about the use of hot and cold in the application of hydrotherapy. The theories of hydrotherapy will be reviewed and the introduction of the use of stones in its application. Students will be introduced to the different types of stones, specifically basalt for the application of heat and marble for the application of cold. Students will be shown how to use these stones during the application of a full body Hot Stone session. The application of hot and cold and its reasons for use will be discusses and the contraindications for each.
A standard hot/cold stone protocol will be introduced along with modifications for local contraindications. The care and use of stones will also be discussed and demonstrated, including the cleaning and storage of the stones.
Students are asked to bring standard linens plus an extra large towel or extra flat sheet, extra hand towels and massage oil (preferably jojoba oil) to this class.
