Lancaster – Nov 1-2, 2020, 9am – 5:30pm
Massage Therapy is now commonly being used to help manage the symptoms of many diseases and medical conditions. But one size massage does not fit all. How do you adapt massage for the Parkinson’s client vs. the cancer client vs. the arthritic client? What special precautions do you need to be aware of for the post-op client, the diabetic client, the stroke client, someone with lymphedema, etc? What massage adaptations need to be made for the client taking pain meds, immunosuppressants, anticoagulants, etc.? You will learn appropriate massage pressures for the medically challenged client, strokes that serve to engage the parasympathetic nervous system and calm the sympathetic nervous system thereby aiding in the reduction of pain sensations. Also taught is use of warm stones for arthritis, scar tissue mobilization for joint replacements and more. We will also be discussing the necessity of using a comprehensive Intake Form to obtain all the information necessary prior to the massage therapy session.
- Day 1 of this class is lecture with interactive questions and answers.
- Day 2 consists of a fun game of role play and then hands on pier to pier practice.
