This course is designed to help massage therapists learn the importance of research literacy; to find out how to locate and navigate credible research findings on how massage therapy has changed and evolved in the 21st century. Experts including Tracy Walton, Ruth Werner, Richard Lebert, and Sandy Fritz, along with organizations such as the Massage Therapy Foundation and S4om.org, through countless efforts and studies have exciting new evidence to share about their findings on subjects such as the definition of massage therapy, the role of a massage therapist, updated benefits of massage, indications and contraindications of massage and bodywork, myths and facts through the years, false claims, and the energy work argument. Students will be taught how and where to look up credible facts and findings instead of using Facebook and Google and relying on rumors and false and subjective information.
This class fulfills the 3 CE research requirement for the NCBTMB.
