NCBTMB Provider # 451117-09

Theresa Macy

As William Butler Yeats says, education is not filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire. Among the chorus of praises written about Theresa in multiple student surveys, one word rises to a chant, finding its way into every response. Passion. Her love of learning, as one student put it, is infectious. Another student mused that Theresa’s lessons stuck with her long after she finished the course, saying that during multiple massages she found herself wondering what Theresa would do, if there was a better way.
In 2003, after a twenty-year career in practice management, Theresa Tobin Macy, Licensed Massage Therapist, Myofascial, and Yoga Therapist, graduated from the Professional Massage Therapy program at the Pennsylvania School of Muscle Therapy. Upon graduating, Theresa earned a certification in deep muscle cross fiber therapy from the Pfrimmer Institute.
Theresa continued her learning path adding the holistic healing practices of yoga. On her journey, she studied the ancient wisdoms honoring a compassionate life style. She practices mindfulness, meditation, stillness, presence, acceptance, and peace.
In 2008, she joined the faculty at Cortiva Institute as an instructor of Massage Therapy, Myofascial Release, Neuromuscular Techniques, Musculoskeletal Anatomy and Kinesiology, Ethics, and Business. The following year, she earned her continuing education provider designation from the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. In 2010, Theresa’s bare feet stepped onto the yoga studio floors teaching therapeutic and yin yoga group classes, private sessions, Yin Yoga Teacher Training/Immersion, Yoga Anatomy, and educational workshops.
She has accrued over 1000 hours in continuing education credits and continues to learn, focusing most heavily on myofascial release for children and adults, deep tissue techniques, assessment skills, therapeutic yoga, and fascial fitness.
On her journey to design and practice her own balanced life, Theresa treasures and is grateful hearing her grandchildren call her Nana. She is joyful seeing her children sharing their lives with amazing partners. She is blessed by her husband who is committed to make her smile every day. She is adventurous, letting go of expectations to join her husband’s curious spontaneity as together they, and their dog Orion, explore the country in their motor home.
